The Best Way to get Rid of Fleas
Fleas affect pets the most, more than any other parasites. There is little information concerning these fleas and how to get rid of them. You therefore need to study them a bit more, and find ways of killing them off.
A flea is known to live for almost three years, and part of that time is not your pet dog. The female flea is capable of laying a million eggs in its lifespan. These eggs can lay dormant in a carpet for almost a year, until there are adequate conditions for them to hatch.
The reason why fleas attack dogs and cats is because they happen to be close to the ground and their bodies have the ideal temperatures for them to grow. In case there are no pets around, the fleas will attack children and toddlers instead. This should make you get rid of them from your house at once. Only a great flea medication can help you do this.
A female flea tends to bite a few times before it finds a blood vessel. Its saliva gives the dog an allergic reaction. Once it is done feeding on the host, it shall then lay its eggs and deposit droppings that consist of undigested blood. The eggs and droppings tend to shed from the dog’s coat and land on all surfaces in living areas.
Their eggs cannot be harmed by temperatures. They will remain as eggs until proper hatching conditions come to pass. When they hatch into larvae, flea medicine can act on them quite easily. You need therefore to apply flea medicine the minute you see the flea presence. This could eliminate a huge number of them.
The flea medicine comes in different levels of effectiveness, safety, odor, and convenience. Whatever your choice of medicine, ensure all animals in the house are administered a dose, including the car. Using the medicine only on the dog is not effective, since the home and yard are places where the eggs could be deposited. Flea medicine is not in one format.
Flea powders are among them. You can use it on any dog after two months of age. It will however only kill adult fleas, and nothing on the larvae.
The two varieties of flea sprays are alcoholic and organic. There are those that contain insect growth regulators that kill flea eggs. Your dog will however not appreciate this medicine format.
Flea dips are quite effective at killing fleas for longer. They are on the other hand quite toxic. Do not do them to the pets too often. Ensure you protect yourself with gloves when doing it.
You now have many ways of killing fleas. Choose one which is most suitable to your situation.
